We attach this bell to our Husky's collar. As he races through the woods, the bear can hear him and so can we. Just the right size and sound and comes with a bonus muffler that is handy when needed. Mostly this bell is valuable to us by keeping our high-spirited Husky in sound range, but it is comforting to know the bears will keep away when we are deep in the forests of New Mexico.

Not just for hiking...Aug 22, 2010
By gingersnapped I use this product for trail riding with my horse. It has flushed out deer and fowl (geese, turkey). Gets them to move on before my horse would get spooked by them. I never ride without it.

bear bellsJul 29, 2010
By 2bouviers Works well, loud enough to be heard from a distance and easy to silence when not in use. Also easily secures to collar.

Loud enough to let other creatures become aware of your presence, but can also be muted easily. Would recommend for anyone who hikes or does anything outdoors where bears, cougars or snakes may be present.
Bears go the other way..Aug 15, 2011
By Tattletale I bought this to use for trail riding in an area with lots of black bears. One recent weekend the bears had been close enough to spook my horse, not good! After using this bell this past weekend, there were no bears..they must have gone the other way, as I saw lots of bear tracks but no bears! Worth the money, and my horses didn't mind the sound at all.
