I am a cyclopsOct 07, 2010
By 31Alpha Headlamps are a necessity in the war zone. I bought this to replace another that was somehow misplaced and have not been disappointed. I decided to try green for the light instead of red (apparently the DoD now thinks green is better than red for night vision). This thing works well and is bright. The lone control is simple and almost idiot proof--you have to hold down for a while to change from the colored light to the white light, and dimming is a second tap of the switch. Additionally, this light uses standard, easily found AAA batteries. I use it almost daily now to guide my way between the latrine and my b-hut.
If you have the need, I highly suggest this light.

Great headlampFeb 25, 2010

I own a number of headlamps, different brands. The appeal of this headlamp was that 1) I could get it with red LEDs and 2) the choice of various levels of light plus a spot when needed. This headamp does all I need and more--I often venture into and out of the woods in the dark during hunting season and the red light not only protects my night vision but is also unnoticed by animals. I find the build on a par with most small headlamps, and the lighting choices much broader. Just a great little lamp.

The Remix is most versatileDec 14, 2009

I purchased the Remix for its ability to give power-saving low light increments as well as a high-beam when I need to investigate far away objects in the dark. Other headlamp makes and models I've had in the past only had the ability to illuminate close-up objects. The Remix has become my trusty main lighting system on backpacking hikes. My only other backup lighting devices for an ultralight trip will be a small wax candle and a tiny keychain LED flashlight. The rotating head and the easy to find push-button are excellent engineering improvements. The Remix loaded with three AAA alkaline batteries weighed in at 3.0oz. using my digital postal scale. Five stars for this light, and I was able to get the Remix for a very competitive price of $33.50, and free shipping.

Best all around headlampJan 20, 2012
By Kim I am a longtime Scout leader who was an avid flashlight freak until I became a headlamp convert. A few years ago I purchased a Princeton Tec Quad, but eventually found that it was necessary for me to have red LEDs so I could maintain my night vision and not offend others with a bright white beam. In my opinion the Remix is the best all-around headlamp, guaranteed to make some other adult leaders and Boy Scouts envious.
I enjoy the fact that this unit is a bit less bulky than my Quad, but it is also more flexible in terms of use than my Quad. It is super-bright (rated at 70 Lumens), so the beam it throws is more than plenty for normal use. The red LEDs can be adjusted for both a bright and a dim beam; set on high, the red beam is very bright. I have found that the lower red beam is perfect in most cases.
The battery compartment is a little tricky. You have to pay attention to where the spring contacts are (for negative battery terminal) in order to get the batteries properly in the compartment. Instead of the batteries laying side-by-side (like the Quad), they slide in to a compartment where the ends of the batteries form a triangle inside the cylindrical lamp housing. This saved some bulk and is a very good design. The battery cover is snug.
There are two features I wish the Remix had: strobe function and a low battery indicator. Both features can be found on the Quad, but their absence on the Remix have no effect on the lamp's performance and certainly did not influence my overall opinion that this is a fantastic headlamp.
The four star rating I have given this headlamp is actually a four and a half star rating. I have taken a half star off for the switch, which I find is not as simple to turn off and on as the one on my Quad. It has an odd form and you need to have your finger in the right spot to activate the beam or change it. It's a small inconvenience, too, that the Remix does not adjust as easily as the Quad (which tilts up or down), but it definitely does not stop me from thinking this is a great headlamp.

Dead after one tripJul 19, 2010
By Bill Abraham I bought two pairs of the Princeton Tec Remix Headlamps (mono color) and both of them have failed after just one trip. The trip was to the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica and the conditions were humid. I guess these products should only be used in the desert; buyers bewware.
